    Are we focusing on internal/external websites & applications, or do we also extend to internal tools or even printed materials?
  • How does this design system align with broader university goals?
    Does it tie into strategic objectives such as improving student experience, community engagement, or brand reputation?

Stakeholders and Governance

  • Who are the main stakeholders, and what roles will they play?
    Consider administrators, IT teams, designers, communications offices, professors, and students.
  • How will decisions about the design system be made?
    Will there be a governance board or a steering committee? Who has final approval for major decisions?
  • How will we ensure cross-departmental buy-in and maintain consistency?
    Universities often have decentralized structures—how will we bring different faculties and departments on board?
